Will There Ever Be
A Ghostbusters 3?
by Chris Vegvary
Over the past few years, rumblings of another Ghostbusters movie have gotten a lot
louder. After having been in development hell for so long, no one really
imagined it could ever really happen, what with how many years have already
passed since Ghostbusters 2, but now
it seemed like a real possibility. Almost everyone from the original cast was
back on board to reprise their roles, and even Rick Moranis, who is retired
from acting, agreed to come back to play Louis Tully. So what happened, you
might wonder? Why have we not seen this film yet? One reason, and one reason
only: Bill Murray.
Bill Murray does not believe that today’s modern movie-going
public wants to see, and I quote, “old men running around in jumpsuits chasing
ghosts”. Bill Murray believes he holds all the cards when it comes to making
this film, and unfortunately for us, he’s right. Several times, Harold Ramis
and Dan Aykroyd have reached out to Murray in an effort to get him to do the
movie, but after leading them on, he rejected them every time. There are even
rumors that it is causing a massive strain in their personal relationships with
each other, and Murray has even teased that he would come back to do it if his
character were a ghost. While everyone else involved thought it would be a good
idea, and while the massive amounts of fans out there would love to see it for
themselves as well as see it introduced to a new generation, it all seems to
hinge on Bill Murray’s decision to return as Peter Venkmann, which does not
appear to be happening.
So are we doomed to never see a Ghostbusters 3? My guess is that yes, we are doomed to that,
because Bill Murray will not budge on his position, and while the rest of the
cast is ready to go ahead without Murray’s involvement, the studio does not
appear to be. And therefore, while we won’t see a Ghostbusters 3, at least you can use the power of your imagination
with our awesome selection of Ghostbusters costumes. Check out what we have in
stock.
