ALIENS IS THE
GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME
My earliest memory that I can recall of ever watching a
movie was the movie Aliens, directed
by James Cameron, released in 1986. I don’t remember how old I was, but I
remember thinking it was the greatest thing I ever saw. To this day, it remains
on the top of my list (and probably forever will) of greatest movies of all
time. What is so great about the movie, right? Here’s the thing: everything is
great about it. Think about how many other great sci-fi and horror films and
games and other media have been inspired by, or even been downright rip-offs
of, the movie Aliens? So many great
lines originate from that movie, such as Bill Paxton’s character Hudson
whimpering “Game over man, game over!” Or how about Ripley’s classic, “Get away
from her, you bitch!” Good times. Here’s the thing, though: I was born in the
early 1980’s, and for some reason, I can’t understand what was scary to people
about the original Alien film. I
don’t really consider it that special, except that it started the series.
Definitely did not like what they did in Alien
3, and let’s not even get started on Alien
Resurrection…Aliens is the pinnacle of action sci-fi movie-making. The
characters are interesting and unforgettable, the story is truly amazing,
and…oh, what’s that? Some of you might not know the story? I don’t believe
that, but just in case it’s true, check out this quick explanation:
When a colony on a moon called LV-426 is attacked by unknown
creatures, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation sends in the Colonial Marines to deal
with the situation, also sending in potential expert on the situation, Ellen
Ripley, who has just awoken from a 57-year-long
hypersleep. While she is terrified in the beginning and the marines are
arrogant and over-confident, they soon realize that they’re no match for the
Xenomorphs that have infested the colony and turned the colonists into hosts
for more aliens. Soon, about twenty or so marines become four, and while they
cower in fear, Ripley steps up to take charge, having dealt with the situation
before (though with only one alien the first time, where this time, there are
over a hundred). Along the way, they meet the sole surviving colonist: a young
girl who likes to be called “Newt”. The source of the eggs containing the
facehugging Xenomorphs that lay the eggs in the hosts of the bipedal Xenomorphs
is revealed to be a queen alien, similar to how ants or bees have hives and
queens (this is discussed by two of the surviving marines in the Special
Edition of the film). After a daring escape from the colony, the queen alien
reveals her presence, having hitched a ride with them back to their space ship,
and rips the team’s android in half (my favorite part!). Ripley uses a giant
mechanical forklift beast-thing called a power loader to fight the queen and
finally eject her from the ship’s airlock. That was a really short-winded
explanation for me, because I could go on and on about how great the film is,
but I know you agree with me anyway, so it’s cool. You know.
So if you know that, you must also know that you’re going to
be looking for an awesome costume for Halloween, or your next upcoming costumed
bash, get-together, party, shindig, ho-down, or what-have-you. My question that
I now pose to you is, just how awesome do you want to look? Because as it turns
out, we have the tools to make you look pretty freaking awesome. Check out some
of the selections of costumes we have and I’m positive you’ll find something
you like.

Thanks for the synopsis. I have to agree that it was a great movie, but best of all time.... not sure about that.
