WHAT WE SHOULD
EXPECT TO SEE IN AVENGERS 2: AGE OF
ULTRON
by Chris Vegvary
ULTRON
If you’re like a lot of people, you’re probably saying to
yourself, “What is Ultron?” There is no short answer to that question, but let
me break it down for you as much as I can. Ultron is an artificial intelligence
robot created by Hank Pym (also known as Ant-Man, Giant Man, and a few other
aliases). It gains a will of its own and decides it wants to kill its creator,
and so it turns evil and attacks the Avengers, who defeat it time and time
again, yet it is always able to rebuild itself.
Ultron is responsible for the creation of a character called
The Vision, an android who would rebel against his master and become one of the
greatest Avengers of all time. It is also responsible for the creation of
Jacosta, an android version of The Wasp (Janet van Dyne, Hank Pym’s wife). So
you’re probably thinking something like, “There is no Hank Pym in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe…yet.” Well, you’re right about that, because the movie Ant-Man directed by Edgar Wright still
has yet to be released. So how is Ultron created? Let’s speculate on that.
What we know is that in Avengers
2: Age of Ultron, Ultron will be created through Tony Stark, yet it is
unclear if Tony willingly creates it or if it evolves out of JARVIS’s
programming. If the teaser trailer shown at this year’s San Diego Comic Con is
any indication of what we can expect, then it also would appear that parts of
Tony’s Iron Man suits will be used to create Ultron, who will be played by
James Spader.
QUICKSILVER AND THE
SCARLET WITCH
Who are they, you ask? That would be Pietro and Wanda
Maximoff, brother and sister mutants, who also happen to be the children of
infamous X-Men villain Magneto. Quicksilver has the ability to move at
superhuman speeds, and Scarlet Witch uses the power of chaos magic to make
things “happen”. You might be asking yourself right now why they’re using X-Men
characters in an Avengers film. Well, it turns out that not only are the
brother and sister duo mutants, but after a brief period of evil-doing, they
turned to the side of good and became full-fledged Avengers.
However, Avengers 2:
Age of Ultron is not the only movie you’ll be seeing Quicksilver in; Fox
apparently owns some of the rights to the character as well, and they have
decided they want to use Quicksilver for a small appearance in their next big
X-Men film, Days of Future Past. The
character will not be played by the same actor in both films.
Quicksilver
BUCKY AS CAPTAIN
AMERICA?
This one is pure speculation on my part from what I know
about the film Captain America: The
Winter Soldier so far. In Captain America 2, there is a character by the
name of Crossbones who, in the comics, is responsible for the death of Cap
after Marvel’s Civil War storyline
(in which superheroes fought each other over mandatory superhuman registration
with the government). At that point, Bucky Barnes, AKA The Winter Soldier, is
asked to take up the mantle of Captain America, which he does. I have heard
that Captain America: The Winter Soldier
is going to feature some kind of drastic change for the Marvel Cinematic
Universe, and I therefore predict that we will see Steve Rogers killed at the
end of Captain America 2 (it’s not permanent, of course, so don’t worry if
you’re a big Steve Rogers fan) by the character Crossbones, and Bucky, the
villain of the film, will regain his memory and take up the shield as Captain
America. It makes sense and I’m calling it right now. While I could speculate
all day on what we’ll see in Avengers 2:
Age of Ultron, I’m going to leave some of the mystery to the filmmakers.
So enough about that. What you need is to look and dress
like an Avenger or an X-Man. How can you do that? The answer is so simple, it
might surprise you. What you want to do is take your eyes and lower them
slightly so that you’re looking at the links under this paragraph. That’s the
first step. Then, move your hand so that the computer mouse arrow hovers over
your link selection. Finally, press the left-most button on the mouse and,
after a moment of loading, you should see what you’re looking for. Was that too
in depth? Not enough? Either way, now you know what to do, so check out our
selection of costumes, because Halloween will be here soon.
