What’s So Special About The Walking Dead?

What’s So Special About The Walking Dead?
by Chris Vegvary

When I first heard of TheWalking Dead, it was years ago, before the show was ever conceived. At the time, I paid it no mind. It’s not that I don’t like zombies, quite the opposite in fact, but a comic book based around zombies just didn’t appeal to me for some reason. When I heard that they were finally planning to do a TV show based on the comic, I thought that maybe I better check out what it was all about, since they were willing to make it into a show. When I read those issues, I’m just going to go ahead and say my life changed a little bit.

In the comics, the action is quick, but powerful, and if you think you can’t feel emotions reading a comic book, I’m going to suggest you start with issue one and read through until at least issue fifty, because you will see a drastic change in what you’ve seen in the show. Why is the show so popular? Let me count the ways. First, zombies. What other TV show before this was successfully about zombies? That’s right, none. Secondly, it’s a big break for the horror genre in general. Thirdly, it’s got all the drama you can handle, plus a little bit more, and for some reason audiences identify with some of these nutcases.
While that’s all well and good, if you’ve read the comics before you actually watched the show (like I did), chances are that you weren’t happy about the changes that they took liberties with. I don’t plan to spoil anything major, but just know that there are a few potential spoilers that follow, so if that’s not your thing, look away now.
When The Governor assaults the prison in season 3, he was supposed to kill a good portion of Rick’s group; Herschel, Axel, Tyrese (yes, the same Tyrese that just joined the group), and even Rick’s wife, Lori, and their newborn baby, Judith. While I understand that it’s in poor taste to show a woman being shot in the back with a shotgun while holding a baby in a TV show, I…don’t want to say I was looking forward to it, exactly, but when they completely changed it up so that Lori and the baby didn’t die at the hands of The Governor and his lackeys, I felt sort of cheated by that. That was something that was supposed to hugely impact Rick and Carl as they escaped the prison with their lives. Another major change (yet this is something that still might happen) is that during Rick’s first meeting with The Governor, The Governor was supposed to chop off one of Rick’s hand, forcing him to use and become proficient with just one hand. That was another big deal that they just seemed to zip past, yet I am hopeful that this will happen in the future of the TV series, as it’s another one of those things that impacts Rick quite a bit.
All in all, I still like the show, and I’m still watching it (season 4 just premiered), but I’m less excited now that I know it’s not as extreme as the comics. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it with all the extremeness in the world, because we have costumes based on the popular TV show here for you to check out. Observe and follow the link below to see.

Will There Ever Be A Ghostbusters 3?

Will There Ever Be A Ghostbusters 3?
by Chris Vegvary

Over the past few years, rumblings of another Ghostbusters movie have gotten a lot louder. After having been in development hell for so long, no one really imagined it could ever really happen, what with how many years have already passed since Ghostbusters 2, but now it seemed like a real possibility. Almost everyone from the original cast was back on board to reprise their roles, and even Rick Moranis, who is retired from acting, agreed to come back to play Louis Tully. So what happened, you might wonder? Why have we not seen this film yet? One reason, and one reason only: Bill Murray.

Bill Murray does not believe that today’s modern movie-going public wants to see, and I quote, “old men running around in jumpsuits chasing ghosts”. Bill Murray believes he holds all the cards when it comes to making this film, and unfortunately for us, he’s right. Several times, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd have reached out to Murray in an effort to get him to do the movie, but after leading them on, he rejected them every time. There are even rumors that it is causing a massive strain in their personal relationships with each other, and Murray has even teased that he would come back to do it if his character were a ghost. While everyone else involved thought it would be a good idea, and while the massive amounts of fans out there would love to see it for themselves as well as see it introduced to a new generation, it all seems to hinge on Bill Murray’s decision to return as Peter Venkmann, which does not appear to be happening.

So are we doomed to never see a Ghostbusters 3? My guess is that yes, we are doomed to that, because Bill Murray will not budge on his position, and while the rest of the cast is ready to go ahead without Murray’s involvement, the studio does not appear to be. And therefore, while we won’t see a Ghostbusters 3, at least you can use the power of your imagination with our awesome selection of Ghostbusters costumes. Check out what we have in stock.

Why There Was No Sequel to Freddy vs. Jason

Why There Was No Sequel to Freddy vs. Jason
by Chris Vegvary

In 2003, the world got together to watch the showdown between two of horror’s biggest icons in the industry with the movie Freddy vs. Jason. It was a battle that had been brewing for a long time, dating back to Friday the 13th part VII, when Jason ended up fighting a telekinetic teenage girl instead. So when the dust settled, Freddy vs. Jason was the most financially successful film in both franchises (excluding the remakes), and a sequel seemed to be in the cards for our favorite horror duo…but alas, this was not meant to be. Here’s why.

When talk of a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason began, several options were thrown into the mix: the possibility of the two facing off against Michael Myers, or Pinhead, or the one that seemed to be everyone’s favorite, the character of Ashley J. Williams from the Evil Dead series, played by Bruce Campbell. A script treatment for the film was released on the internet, titled Freddy vs. Jason: Ashes 2 Ashes, and it featured Ash Williams going to Crystal Lake’s local S-Mart store to show the employees how retail is done, and of course, getting mixed up with the likes of Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger. With a treatment this good, all we were waiting for was a green light to go ahead and start filming. But then, the studios couldn’t agree on a clear winner, each wanting to see their franchise’s main character as the victor. Without any agreement on who would win, things quickly fell apart.
Luckily for us, the entire idea was not scrapped. In 2007, the first of a series of comic books was released called Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. In it, many of the ideas from the film’s script treatment were realized in the form of comic art. While it wasn’t as thrilling as actually seeing all these characters in action on the big screen, it was definitely worth reading. A couple of years later, a sequel to the comics was realeased, entitled Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors, which saw the return of many of the survivors from previous Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th films as they banded together to destroy Freddy, Jason, and the Necronomicon once and for all.
So while we will never see a true and proper sequel to Freddy vs. Jason in the form of a film, at least we can all enjoy their further exploits in the world of comics. And on that note, I should mention that
Halloween Costumes 4 U has tons of costumes, including Freddy and Jason!

ALIENS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME

ALIENS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME

My earliest memory that I can recall of ever watching a movie was the movie Aliens, directed by James Cameron, released in 1986. I don’t remember how old I was, but I remember thinking it was the greatest thing I ever saw. To this day, it remains on the top of my list (and probably forever will) of greatest movies of all time. What is so great about the movie, right? Here’s the thing: everything is great about it. Think about how many other great sci-fi and horror films and games and other media have been inspired by, or even been downright rip-offs of, the movie Aliens? So many great lines originate from that movie, such as Bill Paxton’s character Hudson whimpering “Game over man, game over!” Or how about Ripley’s classic, “Get away from her, you bitch!” Good times. Here’s the thing, though: I was born in the early 1980’s, and for some reason, I can’t understand what was scary to people about the original Alien film. I don’t really consider it that special, except that it started the series. Definitely did not like what they did in Alien 3, and let’s not even get started on Alien Resurrection…Aliens is the pinnacle of action sci-fi movie-making. The characters are interesting and unforgettable, the story is truly amazing, and…oh, what’s that? Some of you might not know the story? I don’t believe that, but just in case it’s true, check out this quick explanation:
When a colony on a moon called LV-426 is attacked by unknown creatures, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation sends in the Colonial Marines to deal with the situation, also sending in potential expert on the situation, Ellen Ripley, who has just awoken from a 57-year-long  hypersleep. While she is terrified in the beginning and the marines are arrogant and over-confident, they soon realize that they’re no match for the Xenomorphs that have infested the colony and turned the colonists into hosts for more aliens. Soon, about twenty or so marines become four, and while they cower in fear, Ripley steps up to take charge, having dealt with the situation before (though with only one alien the first time, where this time, there are over a hundred). Along the way, they meet the sole surviving colonist: a young girl who likes to be called “Newt”. The source of the eggs containing the facehugging Xenomorphs that lay the eggs in the hosts of the bipedal Xenomorphs is revealed to be a queen alien, similar to how ants or bees have hives and queens (this is discussed by two of the surviving marines in the Special Edition of the film). After a daring escape from the colony, the queen alien reveals her presence, having hitched a ride with them back to their space ship, and rips the team’s android in half (my favorite part!). Ripley uses a giant mechanical forklift beast-thing called a power loader to fight the queen and finally eject her from the ship’s airlock. That was a really short-winded explanation for me, because I could go on and on about how great the film is, but I know you agree with me anyway, so it’s cool. You know.

So if you know that, you must also know that you’re going to be looking for an awesome costume for Halloween, or your next upcoming costumed bash, get-together, party, shindig, ho-down, or what-have-you. WHAT WE SHOULD EXPECT TO SEE IN AVENGERS 2: AGE OF ULTRON

WHAT WE SHOULD EXPECT TO SEE IN AVENGERS 2: AGE OF ULTRON
by Chris Vegvary

ULTRON
If you’re like a lot of people, you’re probably saying to yourself, “What is Ultron?” There is no short answer to that question, but let me break it down for you as much as I can. Ultron is an artificial intelligence robot created by Hank Pym (also known as Ant-Man, Giant Man, and a few other aliases). It gains a will of its own and decides it wants to kill its creator, and so it turns evil and attacks the Avengers, who defeat it time and time again, yet it is always able to rebuild itself.
Ultron is responsible for the creation of a character called The Vision, an android who would rebel against his master and become one of the greatest Avengers of all time. It is also responsible for the creation of Jacosta, an android version of The Wasp (Janet van Dyne, Hank Pym’s wife). So you’re probably thinking something like, “There is no Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…yet.” Well, you’re right about that, because the movie Ant-Man directed by Edgar Wright still has yet to be released. So how is Ultron created? Let’s speculate on that.
What we know is that in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, Ultron will be created through Tony Stark, yet it is unclear if Tony willingly creates it or if it evolves out of JARVIS’s programming. If the teaser trailer shown at this year’s San Diego Comic Con is any indication of what we can expect, then it also would appear that parts of Tony’s Iron Man suits will be used to create Ultron, who will be played by James Spader.

QUICKSILVER AND THE SCARLET WITCH
Who are they, you ask? That would be Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, brother and sister mutants, who also happen to be the children of infamous X-Men villain Magneto. Quicksilver has the ability to move at superhuman speeds, and Scarlet Witch uses the power of chaos magic to make things “happen”. You might be asking yourself right now why they’re using X-Men characters in an Avengers film. Well, it turns out that not only are the brother and sister duo mutants, but after a brief period of evil-doing, they turned to the side of good and became full-fledged Avengers.
However, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron is not the only movie you’ll be seeing Quicksilver in; Fox apparently owns some of the rights to the character as well, and they have decided they want to use Quicksilver for a small appearance in their next big X-Men film, Days of Future Past. The character will not be played by the same actor in both films.

BUCKY AS CAPTAIN AMERICA?
This one is pure speculation on my part from what I know about the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier so far. In Captain America 2, there is a character by the name of Crossbones who, in the comics, is responsible for the death of Cap after Marvel’s Civil War storyline (in which superheroes fought each other over mandatory superhuman registration with the government). At that point, Bucky Barnes, AKA The Winter Soldier, is asked to take up the mantle of Captain America, which he does. I have heard that Captain America: The Winter Soldier is going to feature some kind of drastic change for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I therefore predict that we will see Steve Rogers killed at the end of Captain America 2 (it’s not permanent, of course, so don’t worry if you’re a big Steve Rogers fan) by the character Crossbones, and Bucky, the villain of the film, will regain his memory and take up the shield as Captain America. It makes sense and I’m calling it right now. While I could speculate all day on what we’ll see in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, I’m going to leave some of the mystery to the filmmakers.
So enough about that. What you need is to look and dress like an Avenger or an X-Man. How can you do that? The answer is so simple, it might surprise you. What you want to do is take your eyes and lower them slightly so that you’re looking at the links under this paragraph. That’s the first step. Then, move your hand so that the computer mouse arrow hovers over your link selection. Finally, press the left-most button on the mouse and, after a moment of loading, you should see what you’re looking for. Was that too in depth? Not enough? Either way, now you know what to do, so check out our selection of costumes, because Halloween will be here soon.
